New research students join ESI Social Science research group

I am delighted to welcome two new research students who have started to work with me and are part of our social sciences group at ESI.

Tom James

Tom recently won ESRC/NERC funding through the South West Doctoral Training Centre to study for a PhD in Environment, Energy and Resilience. Drawing on experiences gained during previous environmental research projects in Cornwall, Tom will investigate the role of social innovation in Cornish communities’ transitions to more

sustainable socio-ecological systems. Socio-technical and resilience theory will underpin the research, with a particular focus on how leadership can affect change. Action research and Q methodology will be adopted in the mixed methods approach to Tom’s programme of research
